Inr normal range vs therapeutic12/2/2023 ![]() The prothrombin time is the time it takes plasma to clot after addition of tissue factor (obtained from animals). The INR is the ratio of a patient's prothrombin time to a normal (control) sample, raised to the power of the ISI value for the control sample used.Ĭlick here for more details about the use of INR for warfarin monitoring. The ISI value indicates how the particular batch of tissue factor compares to an internationally standardized sample. The prothrombin ratio is the prothrombin time for a patient, divided by the result for control plasma.īecause of differences between different batches and manufacturers of tissue factor (it is a biologically obtained product), the INR was devised to standardise the results.Įach manufacturer gives an ISI (International Sensitivity Index) for any tissue factor they make. Some laboratories use a mechanical measurement, which eliminates interferences from lipemic and icteric samples. Tissue factor (also known as factor III or thromboplastin) is added, and the time the sample takes to clot is measured optically. If a tube is underfilled or overfilled with blood, the standardized dilution of 1.1 is no longer valid. So, all analysis takes this dilution into account by multiplying the result by 1.1 to account for the dilution. This dilution will cause a falsely long prothrombin time. Just as adding solvent to any solution will dilute it, adding liquid anticoagulant to blood will dilute it. For the prothrombin time test the appropriate sample is the blue top tube, or citrate tube, which is a liquid anticoagulant. ![]() This is because Vacutainer test tubes generally contain a powdered anticoagulant to prevent blood from clotting. For an accurate measurement the proportion of blood to citrate needs to be fixed many laboratories will not perform the assay if the tube is underfilled and contains a relatively high concentration of citrate. An excess of calcium is added (thereby reversing the effects of citrate), which enables the blood to clot again. The plasma is analyzed by a medical technologist on an automated instrument at 37☌, which takes a sample of the plasma. The blood is mixed, then centrifuged to separate blood cells from plasma. Citrate acts as an anticoagulant by binding the calcium in a sample. Blood is drawn into a test tube containing liquid citrate. The prothrombin time can be measured roughly on whole blood (which is done in neonates), but is more commonly measured from blood plasma. The INR became widely accepted worldwide, especially after endorsement by the World Health Organisation Causes of Elevated PT The INR was introduced in the early 1980s when it turned out that there was a large degree of variation between the various prothrombin time assays, a discrepancy mainly due to problems with the purity of the thromboplastin (tissue factor) concentrate. It aided in the identification of the anticoagulants dicumarol and warfarin, and was used subsequently as a measure of activity for warfarin when used therapeutically. The prothrombin time was discovered by Dr Armand Quick and colleagues in 1935, and a second method was published by Dr Paul Owren (also called the "p and p" or "prothrombin and proconvertin" method). It is used in conjunction with the activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) which measures the intrinsic pathway. PT measures factors II, V, VII, X and fibrinogen. The reference range for prothrombin time is usually around 12-15 seconds the normal range for the INR is 0.8-1.2. They are used to determine the clotting tendency of blood, in the measure of warfarin dosage, liver damage and vitamin K status. ![]() The prothrombin time (PT) and its derived measures of prothrombin ratio (PR) and international normalized ratio (INR) are measures of the extrinsic pathway of coagulation. Portrait vs landscape preference12/2/2023 ![]() This orientation is often used in landscapes to highlight an element (a mountain, a tree that stands out, etc.), lending a very specific visual and dynamic power to the image. It allows you to capture imposing elements and make them the main element. Likewise, the portrait orientation can be particularly interesting in landscape photography. © Joakim Nadell / Unsplash © Ricardo Gomez / Unsplash It’s very interesting to use in architectural photography in order to accentuate the dizzying sensation that one can have in front of huge buildings. The portrait orientation, meanwhile, allows for greater vertical details. Use of the landscape orientation can also be justified for several of the above reasons at the same time, as in the following examples: Focus on the upper body / Rule of thirds / To follow the subject’s gaze © Janko Ferlic / Unsplash To contextualize / Rule of thirds / Make the image more dynamic / Show movement © Jeremy Cai / Unsplash Include an external element © Caroline Verone / Unsplash Show movement / Make image more dynamic © Quan Nguyen / Unsplash To position your subject on one of lines from the rule of thirds. To highlight your subject with a specific background. While you need only move away from your subject to include a background when in portrait orientation, choosing the landscape orientation can sometimes be a better choice, especially in the following cases: It is therefore important to determine the visual message you want to convey when deciding how to frame and orient your image, even if it means getting rid of the default orientation, whether it’s landscape or portrait. The orientation of your camera is directly related to the composition of your image. Portrait and Landscape: vary your orientations It is therefore particularly suitable for capturing the grandiose aspect of what we see more broadly with our eyes, as is the case with landscapes. It is a fairly logical intuition to orient your frame in this direction when you want to shoot a portrait, since we naturally reduce our visual field when we focus on someone or on a single subject.Ĭonversely, the horizontal orientation, or landscape orientation, will allow for more space across and include more elements. ![]() This ultimately leaves little room for the surrounding setting and makes it easier to focus attention on the main subject. The reason the vertical orientation, or portrait orientation, is the one favored for portraits is because it easily allows you to focus your subject in the center of the image. Peacock incubator near me12/1/2023 ![]() Being a tropical species, they are unable to take the cold very well, although they are the most cold-hardy peacock pheasant. In aviculture, they are the most commonly kept peacock pheasant species. Grey peacock pheasants ( Polyplectron bicalcaratum) are considered Least Concern by the IUCN. If you are interested in acquiring peacock pheasants, feel free to reach out and I will do my best to connect you with a reputable breeder. This page will remain for reference purposes. Each species has something special in store and it's certain that one cannot get bored by working with peacock pheasants.Īs of 2020, peacock pheasants are no longer a part of the collection. I recommend beginning with the grey peacock pheasant, as they are readily available, the most affordable, and more forgiving than other peacock pheasant species. Once an individual has had success breeding pheasants and is familiar with their husbandry needs, then is it appropriate to venture into peacock pheasant species. This can be accomplished by adding an older chick or a chick of a different species (granted that they are not too large or going to bully the peacock pheasant chick) to the brooder, which can be removed once they are eating well. The chicks are very small when they hatch and may require additional attention to entice them to eat. The females lay small clutches of two eggs (some species just lay one egg per clutch), though they can produce a few clutches in a given season if they do not incubate and rear their own young. My peacock pheasants receive commercial diets along with a mixture of fruits and vegetables, and I have noticed that my birds at least tend to be more picky in regards to what they eat. In the wild, they are insectivores, so it is a good idea to offer captive birds mealworms. Peacock pheasants have many additional pros, but they are certainly not a beginner's pheasant. ![]() Peacock pheasants do not need expansive aviaries as some pheasant species do, which is a plus. With that said, I have had grey peacock pheasants do well in large aviaries with various species, and have seen similar situations at other collections. Since they are such small birds, it is a good idea to keep them in their own individual pens. Peacock pheasants are monogamous and should be kept as pairs. During their breeding displays, the males open up their tail, just as a peacock fans his train. There is noticeable variation between the species, but the males of each species have moderately-sized tails marked with vibrant ocelli. ![]() These pheasants inhabit various parts of Asia therefore, they are tropical birds that require heat in northern climates.
